I am so excited to be posting about our progress these last few days. Work has finally picked up again and things are moving alone at a better pace. Now that doesn't mean that things haven't been moving along because they have. Im just glad that things are starting to be put back together now instead of torn apart.
On Saturday We started ripping door casings off because they aren't in really great condition and I want to replace them. So I put on my tool belt and got to work. There are actually pictures of me but I hate to repost so if you want to see them then you can see them in Jakes post where he is saying thanks to all the people who have helped so far. Downstairs we took all the door casings and door jambs off because they were in really bad shape and weren't done properly the first time around. So we didn't want to hassle with trying to repair. Instead we are just going to start over.
We also had electricians there as well on Saturday. They got the whole place wired up....including my jetted tub :) We put in can lighting in the upstairs family room. They look so awesome and we couldn't be happier with them.
Here are a few pictures...
Chris showed up as well in the morning to put some more kitchen cabinets together.
As the day went on and work progressed I was thinking about what else we could do to get us closer to getting the house done.....well as much as we have control over. I made the decision that we were going to paint the kitchen to get things moving in that room again. So me and Jake hauled it off to Home Depot to pick out ceiling paint as well as look at what paint we wanted to paint the whole house. We are going to paint the whole house just one color to save some money and hassle. We can go through it later and accent a wall or two or decide what we want where. I wish that we would have gotten pictures of the ceiling before because it looked really nasty. So much grime from cooking over the years and food splatters that were never cleaned up. It wasn't pretty and definitely needed a couple new coats to brighten it up. We also decided on a color to paint the whole house and we couldn't be happier. It looks great in the kitchen so far. We still have to do a double coat in a few places but it looks so much better.
Here are some pictures in the kitchen before it was painted
In these next few pictures you will see the color that we have chosen to paint the whole house. Hopefully you can tell the color...
I love the color. I think that it will look really good throughout the house and I think with what we have picked out for the kitchen as well. Once it is all put together I will pick out the backsplash that we will want for the kitchen. I can't pick it out until things are put together so that I can get a better picture.
Here are some pictures of the ceiling that Jake did....
Dan (my brother-in-law) came to help with the cutting around the edges. After we were done with putting all the coats of paint on the ceiling and 2 coats on one wall and one coat on the walls where all the appliances and cabinets go I decided to have them start on the flooring. We were supposed to have a date last night but I really wanted to get some good work done at the house and really feel good about all the work that we put in.
Here are some pictures of the progress of the kitchen from both yesterday and today.
We love the color of the flooring and are both excited about how far we have come in the kitchen. We didn't do it to the edge because sheet-rockers are supposed to come tomorrow and we didn't want them damaging the awesome floor that we all worked so hard to get down. We put cardboard around the edges so that when they work on the kitchen wall we won't need to worry as much about them sheet-rocking the one side of the kitchen.
This is how we left it today
The plan tomorrow is to hopefully have that hole in the wall patched up so that we can finish painting the back wall in the kitchen and start installing the cabinets. Chris should be there later tomorrow to help Jake and Kevin and even possibly Dan so they all should get a lot done in the kitchen. I am so excited!!!
The contractor said that sheet-rocking should be done by the end of the week so that means that we can go ahead and start painting the whole upstairs at least and getting the finishing work done....or at least started.
Kevin is coming back into town tonight so Jake wants both of them to finally finish the sprinklers both front and back and get them working on a timer so that we can start working on greening up the lawn a little bit. Sprinklers are tedious and I really hope that they get it done during tomorrows day so that we can stop worrying about them and start working on making our yard look decent. Jake wants to fill in all holes and ditches and dig up all rose bushes so that all we have to really worry about is watering the lawn and trying to make is live again and hopefully get a little greener :)
I am so excited for tomorrows work day. I won't be contributing as much because I will have E with me all day but I still want to be there as much as I can so that I can see everything and help out where I can.
Wow! Excellent job. I love the floor. And the color of the paint looks great too, nice and clean and neutral. I love it. It brightens it up a bunch. You guys should feel so accomplished. Well done. So excited to see the kitchen cabinets in! I hope that's in the next episode...
