Long days already

So yesterday was spent at the house all day. It was a very long day. It isn't easy keeping my son out all day and just having little catnaps. Needless to say though he slept great last night. Mary stopped by last night at the end and it was great to see her and her daughter. Mary is Jakes aunt for all of you who don't know who she is and we are now neighbors :) She will also be watching E on Fridays which will be nice because they will get to spend time together...plus when we move in we will be down the street :)
So obviously construction continued yesterday on the house. The kitchen got done being ripped out. This is what it looks like now....

That is Chris. He is our brother in law who is putting out kitchen cabinets together. He came over last night after work to get started since IKEA delivered all of our kitchen stuff yesterday. Thank you Chris for all the you are doing. I saw how much he got done last night and he did quick work. I was impressed.
As you can see we are ripping out the wall and making a new entrance into the kitchen. Right now when you walk up the stairs from the front door you can see right into the kitchen and at the sink. I don't want that to be the first thing that people see.....the kitchen sink. So we are closing up that entrance and moving it down a little bit so that that isn't the first thing that you see when you walk up. I don't know how much people agree with me about moving the entrance but it isn't what I want so we are moving it.
We were going to start laying the kitchen floor yesterday but the city came and turned on the water and we had a pipe bust so we had to turn the water back off. The contractor has the plumber coming Thursday but I guess the guys think that they might be able to fix it so when I left today they were going to try and start on that and see if they could fix things so that they could start laying down the kitchen floor.
I took Emerson yesterday and had the water turned on as well as talked to them about delivering garbage cans to the house. We also went and picked out carpet, tile, and our wood floor for the entry way as well as for the kitchen. I felt so accomplished yesterday. I also picked it out all by myself as well as came in under budget for each item I picked out. I feel very proud. Oh and we also get the extra thick padding for the carpet at no additional charge. I am really excited about that especially with E crawling around everywhere. Now when he bonks his head he will have at least a little more padding.

So we still had the use of Kevin yesterday so he got to work in the yard....his favorite place! I don't think that we took a picture of the front yard with all the over grown rose bushes but just take my work for it....they were out of control. We also don't want roses in the yard at all. Just don't think that it is wise with 2 little guys growing up and running around. Don't want the thorns to cause a problem. So clearly they haven't been taken care of at all so Kevin chopped all of them down as well as a bush against the house. I felt like the lawn was taking over the front of the house. I think that some family members will actually be taking some of the rose bushes once we dig them up to put in there yards because they like them. Here are a few pictures of the rose bushes in piles. Maybe you can imagine what they would have looked like in the yard.....

The last picture is exactly what we don't want to have happen to the boys. Poor Jake got caught by one of the bushes when he was hauling them to the other side of the lawn because the dumpster that we have in front of the house is already filled up.
We also had my dad bring out his trailer that is full of tools so that they can be used to help with the house. He also stuck around and helped rip up some of the house. Both me and Jake are so grateful to all the help that we have had in the last few days to make some real progress on the house.
I ran them all lunch today...by all I mean Jake, Kevin, and Wayne (my dad). I am not sure of the work that they are doing today or what projects they are working on besides the plumbing. When I left Kevin was outside digging a hole in the front yard by the window because I think that that is where it was leaking yesterday. Jake and my dad were downstairs in the laundry room as well as E's big brothers room since it is just on the opposite wall of the laundry room and there is a leak in the laundry room as well.
I didn't stay all day to watch the progress because I had two boys today and it was just too much. Plus E was so tired I really wanted to get him home to take a real nap in his bed. Also I did all the work that I could yesterday...in picking everything out :)

  1. Good job getting a lot done! I love days like that when you go to bed tired, thinking..."I did A, B, C, D and E today. Wow. And I watched kids and helped with this and that. What a day!" Yes. I guess that's why I like being busy...such a rush. And then it makes the lazy days feel like such a treat! :) I can't wait to see the cabinets in!

  2. I can totally picture dad out there digging a hole as you drove away! Ha! He can wield a shovel like MadMartigan wields his sword :)
